Application / BI Developer

Job Description:

Responsible for developing and translating software requirements in to workable programming code as well as both maintaining and developing code for the global Edge business.

Your Responsibilities

You will be required to review all existing Edge software systems and provide appropriate solutions to automate processes, bring in new ways of working and manage BI reporting for the business. You will be working closely with all business units and as a result will need to understand their purpose and intended goals so that information can be incorporated into the end result.

You must be a team player and have the confidence to deal with contractors and clients. You must possess the skills necessary to hit the ground running

The role involves:

  • To develop reporting in the Qlik Business Intelligence platform
  • To assist with the IT operations of the overall business
  • Establishing a detailed program specification through discussion with the client areas
  • Clarifying what actions the programme is intended to perform.
  • Breaking down program specification into its simplest elements and translating this logic into a programming language.
  • Devising possible solutions to anticipated problems.
  • Combining all elements of the program design and testing it
  • Testing sample data-sets to check that output from the program works as intended
  • Conducting testing and installing the program into production
  • Reacting to problems and correcting the program as necessary
  • Evaluating and increasing the program’s effectiveness
  • Adapting the program to new requirements, as necessary
  • Conducting user-acceptance testing to ensure the program can be used easily, quickly and accurately
  • Writing detailed documentation for the operation of the program by users
  • Consulting manuals, periodicals and technical reports to learn new ways to develop programs and maintain existing skills and knowledge.
  • Updating, repairing, modifying and developing existing software and generic applications.

Qualifications of the Application / BI Developer

  • High level of technical knowledge
  • Degree in relevant subject area (business / management; computer science / software engineering; information systems; mathematics; physical / mathematical / applied science)
  • Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (Desirable but not essential)
  • Oracle Certified Associate / Professional / Master, Java (Desirable but not essential)
  • Oracle PL / SQL Developer Certified Associate / Professional (Desirable but not essential)

Skills Required

  • Good understanding of both data and reporting
  • Ability to develop small applications which are rugged and easy to use
  • Understanding of API’s and integration
  • Good understanding of business functions
  • Ingenuity and creativity
  • Logical approach to problem solving
  • Analytical capabilities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail
  • Tenacity and patience
  • Communication skills – including the ability to convey information to non-technical colleagues in both a concise and clear way.

Minimum Programming Requirements

  • Visual Basic or VB.net
  • Qlik scripting and report design
